    Additional Information

    Maintaining Your Smile

Maintaining good oral health involves a combination of regular dental checkups, proper oral hygiene practices, and a healthy diet. This includes:

Brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and a soft-bristled brush.

Flossing daily to remove food particles and plaque between teeth.

Eating a healthy, balanced diet that is low in sugar and high in vitamins and minerals.

Limiting intake of sugary and acidic drinks and snacks.

Avoiding tobacco use, which can increase the risk of gum disease and oral cancer.

Visiting a dentist regularly for checkups and cleanings, as well as any necessary treatments.

Good oral health is important not only for the health of the mouth and teeth, but also for overall health and wellbeing.

    Maintaining Your Dentures

Maintaining your dentures is important to keep them long lasting. This can be achieved by cleaning them daily with a denture cleaning product and using a denture brush to help remove food particles.

Feel free to download the A4  'Denture Cleaning Instruction' below. This is particularly helpful for residents in aged care as a daily Denture Care reminder.

Jaw Recession and restoration of loss of vertical dimension

Mandibular Jaw (lower jaw) Resorption After Tooth Loss

Edentulous patients, who have lost all of their natural teeth, may experience jaw recession or resorption over time. Jaw recession refers to the gradual loss of bone mass in the jawbone, which can lead to a sunken or collapsed appearance of the lower face. Tooth loss can lead to changes in the alignment and distribution of forces in the mouth. Without proper support from teeth, the remaining bone in the jaw may undergo changes to accommodate the altered bite, leading to bone resorption.

To address the issue of jaw recession in edentulous patients, dentures can be designed to restore the vertical dimension in patient's who have experienced a loss of vertical height due to factors such as tooth loss, bone resorption, or over-closure. Restoring the appropriate vertical dimension is important for proper dental function, aesthetics, and overall oral health.
